The Algarve region is not typically known for its mountainous terrain, but its low hills provide an excellent vantage point from which to admire the Portuguese coastline and the towns along it. One Sunday, we decided to take a walk to see the Moinho das Estrellas (The Star Windmills).

From Faro, the windmill appears as a small white dot on the nearby hill.

To start the walk, you can either park your car at the Goldra estate CLICK HERE and continue along the path that runs along the ridge of the hill, or you can drive up closer to the windmills CLICK HERE.

The windmills date back to the 19th century and were originally used to grind grains and other agricultural products. The site has since been restored and is now a popular tourist attraction. This route is ideal for those interested in history, traditional architecture, and picturesque views of the ocean and the lush valley on the opposite side of the hill.

It took us 1.5 hours to complete the route.
